Remove Computer Viruses!
Jul 26th
Computer viruses can get everyone at some point or another, sometimes you do not even know that you have a virus on your desktop or laptop. Even though some viruses cannot be obviously seen by something wrong with your computer have no worries they can be found and destroyed! If you are running a windows operating system you are at the biggest risk of getting a virus, however windows computers are not the only type of computers at risk for viruses.
Mac computers can also get viruses, and they will need to be removed with compatible Mac anti virus software. Anti-virus and anti-malware software can be found free on the internet. Before you start downloading all kinds of anti-virus and anti-malware software it’s always recommended to search computer repair forums for software that is trusted and recommended to get the job done. Most forums online will recommend that you have 1 anti-virus program, 1 anti-malware program, and 1 anti-spyware program so that all kinds of computer infections can be found.
If you computer is seriously infected with viruses, it may be required that your computer hard drive is removed and scanned externally from another computer with programs to remove infections to delete all the viruses loaded on your computer. If you do not have the tools to perform a remote scan of your hard drive you can get them from just about any computer repair store for pretty cheap, or you can seek the help of a computer repair shop to remove the infections for you.
Getting the help of a computer technician shop and having them show you step by step how to remove the infections can help you remove it by yourself in the future and avoid paying a fee for the service. Once you perform all the virus scans and remove the infections from your computer, try to stay safe online by keeping these programs and maintain your computer by doing weekly scans for infections on your computer.
The Price War On Desktop Security Software
May 24th
Now that there are millions of computer users all around the world, the competition has become more intense for market share for desktop security software. Once upon a time, it was just a few software developers like Microsoft who were providing this kind of security service. Not anymore though, because it has become a huge industry on its own.
In fact, it is possible to download free versions of highly respectable branded desktop security software like AVG and Avast (get the full guide to these over at the desktop security software guide). Naturally, this is the basic security package they have, and they dangle their complete package soon after the free download. If you’re happy with the free version, they promise you will be ecstatic over the complete version.
Desktop security software is not just about which one is cheaper with more features. It’s also about which one can deliver the better service. This is why when you are shopping around for an anti-spyware, anti-virus, and malware detection, you have to look beyond the price.
Check for firewall, pop up blocking, live internet monitoring, automatic updates, email and attachment screening, and download or website screening. There are more features, but this are the “must haves.”
You should also surf for customer feedback – the genuine feedback, and not the “fed by the marketing department” kind of paid comments. This will give you a good gauge on which brand you can depend on more. Furthermore, check reviews from professionals and computer experts because there will be more details and figures for you to analyze.
One of the best desktop security software systems is the most expensive is the Kaspersky at $70 for the complete version. This is followed by AVG’s total package at $66, Bit Defender and Ad-Aware with excellent anti-spyware at $54, then Panda Anti-virus at $34.
Whichever security software you choose, it will be way more better than having none at all – provided you get a reliable and effective software.
Reimage Review: Automating Your Home Office Computer Repair
May 18th
Home office workers are totally dependent on their computer for their livelihood and any extended PC downtime cannot be tolerated. This article highlights a sequence of computer repair and maintenance steps to take after the PC registry becomes corrupted along with a Reimage review as a means to automating repairs using an online service.
I recently received a fatal blue screen error during Windows start up with the code 0x80072F76. As I work from home I had to attempt all repairs for myself. The error code means that the registry file has been corrupted. The following repairs should be attempted in the sequence stated here based on online advice.
- Log onto Windows under a different account. This workaround will work if the registry hive is only affected for a single account.
- Start Windows in safe-mode then import an older version of the registry. This is dependent on you keeping backup copies of the registry.
- Use the Windows boot disks to start the computer then run all system checks. This is less likely to work though may highlight some possible cause (e.g. disk sector faults).
- Lastly, resort to automated PC maintenance software.
I ultimately went with Reimage PC maintenance software as the computer got a blue screen error no matter what was attempted and it successfully got my PC operational again in 30 minutes.
Reimage can provide a boot application (from their site) to bypass blue screen issues during start up and get IE and web access operational. Once Windows is booted, Reimage runs as an ActiveX application within IE.
It scans the file system (OS & applications) and registry for faults comparing your system to their online database of healthy, working configurations. The repair stage downloads missing/upgraded files from their server and repairs registry key errors then reboots the computer.
As a home office worker it is necessary to attempt repairs for yourself. The above steps will assist anyone experiencing the same blue screen error and it is reassuring to know that if all else fails then there is software there to act as an online repair service.
